Steadicam M-1 5/8″ Gimbal Spacer

Here’s the drawing for the M1 Gimbal Spacer that I made up for my gimbal. It’s a semi-permanent mod, meaning that once you’ve done this, you will not be able to remove it and replace it on a shot-by-shot basis. To remove it, you will either need a solvent or heat to break the Loctite or Superglue bond, and then clean out the bore of the gimbal. However, if you’re willing to commit to that, it means you can continue to use your PRO (or other 5/8″) arm posts, low mode brackets, and dock without changing any of them! (Though if you got a new dock with the M1, you will need to change the .740″ studs on it down to .623″ like a PRO-sized dock would have)

The hole in the spacer is deliberately oversized, so it only has to be roughly aligned with the hole for the aircraft pin in the gimbal handle. If you feel comfortable getting the hole aligned perfectly when inserting the spacer (which is tougher than it seems), you could make the hole .201″ (#7), or even .1875″ (3/16″), but I don’t see a need to.

DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for damage done to your gear, or to issues you have in making this – I’m just providing you the drawing I used to make mine.
